DataMPowered is a National Digital Track participant in the Buy Australian AI Partnership, exploring accountable and sovereign AI capability in Australia.

DataMPowered is participating in the National Digital Track of the Buy Australian AI Partnership, an initiative supporting Australia's growing AI ecosystem.

The National AI Centre (NAIC) is Principal Sponsor of the program, with Stone & Chalk as Delivery Partner.

Why this is relevant to DataMPowered

Australia's AI opportunity is not only about adopting increasingly capable technology. As AI is used to interpret information, recommend actions and support day-to-day work, organisations also need to consider what happens to their own knowledge, judgement, authority and day-to-day operating strength.

That is the question DataMPowered has been pursuing in its research and public writing: how to gain the benefits of AI without losing the records, reasons and decision rights that make organisational action legitimate.

When sovereignty is more than hosting

As AI becomes part of how organisations interpret situations, recommend actions and carry out work, sovereignty is about more than where a model or dataset is hosted.

A practical question follows: what knowledge, decision rights and operational capabilities should remain genuinely under the organisation's control?

Those might include policies and evidence people rely on, who is allowed to see or use sensitive information, who may approve a consequential step, and whether an outcome can later be explained and reviewed. DataMPowered refers to this wider picture as sovereign operational capability—control over the operating environment in which AI assists work, not only the model itself.

Related work on judgement governance and operational intelligence addresses how human discretion and accountable outcomes fit into that picture. DataMPowered's parliamentary submission on productive, accountable AI (Submission 60, September 2026) argued along similar lines: govern the work AI enables, not only the model that assists it.

What participation offers

The National Digital Track provides Australian AI companies with expert advice, industry insights and digital activities designed to build their understanding of financial services and enterprise requirements.

DataMPowered sees its participation as an opportunity to engage with others working on Australian AI capability, test that thinking against real organisational needs in financial services, where questions of trust, accountability and control are particularly consequential, share its research direction where useful, and listen where enterprise experience challenges our assumptions.

The wider opportunity

The value of the program for DataMPowered is therefore not simply exposure to the AI ecosystem. It is the chance to work alongside others on a proposition that matters for Australia: whether we can adopt increasingly capable AI without allowing the knowledge, judgement and operational strength of our organisations to migrate with it.

Readers who want to go further can explore sovereign operational capability in architecture terms, or AI governance and assurance for how consequential AI-enabled work can be governed in practice.
